I bought a carton of 15 from my local market and so many of them were doubles! I had never seen one before, as I usually just buy from the grocery store. When I cracked open the first two for banana bread, I didn't quite know what to do as the recipe called for two eggs and these were doubles. So I just put them both in, and added a little more flour, banana, etc. It turned out just fine.

My wife and I just received some laying hens from the hatchery about a month ago. We've been raising them as pastured poultry and consistently have one hen who lays a double-yolker every day. I found an ENTIRE carton of double yoked eggs. I started researching them, thinking it was some sort of genetic mutation. I guess it is more common than I thought. But still... I screamed after each consecutive double yoker. It freaked me out. Twelve... in a row.

I had two double-yolked eggs in the last week after a years-long spell without any; I'm always pleasantly surprised to find them. I just use them like regular eggs. The resulting baked goods are better, if anything!

I bought a carton of jumbo organic eggs last week, and TEN out of the dozen were double yoke eggs! I was a little spooked, especially since up until now I've encountered double yoked eggs only a couple of times in my life, and 10 out of 12 seems like a statistical impossibility. As a kid I refused to eat them because I'm a twin, and I always felt like it hit a little too close to home :)

When I was 6-7 I would often make brownies with one of my babysitters. She would frequently buy double yolked eggs. I do no know where from though! We always knew that's what they were, and so only had to crack one egg into the batter...

Believe it or not, but there is a store in my neighborhood that sells boxes of "twin" eggs. Why would anyone want to buy that? It puts me off whenever I find one by accident.

Double yolks is normal production for a young hen. When the hens are between the age of 20 and 25 weeks 4% of the eggs they produce are double yolks. This percentage can be augmented by giving more hours of light. A hen lays 1 egg every 25 hours.

Its been ages since I've seen a double-yolked egg because the only way it happens is due to an abnormality to the producing cycle of the eggs-- the hen would either be young (like a first timer) or a hen that's cycle has gone a bit crazy :p but in all cases, its not too often!

About 10 years ago while I was living in Amman, Jordan, my Aunt would actually go buy double yolks specifically cause I thought they were so weird. We also used to buy double cherries and other "mutant" fruits and veggies. We mostly used them for scrambled eggs, so no complaints from me!
